Dante looked at his wife with a smirk of confidence and admiration. "Yes, Ma'am." he replied before giving her a final kiss on the forehead.
He knew that even in her current state, she wasn't fragile and wouldn't break. She was hard-headed, resilient, and bold, which were all things he loved about her the most. But a part of him, for the first time in their life-long friendship now marriage, he hoped she would lay low in this fight. Of course he knew it was never going to happen and it made him feel uneasy.
As Dante was giving the typical husbandly speech about keeping safe, Astrum was doing the same with Geek and gave her one last hug before he and Dante lead the others out into the field where the other helicopter sat.
The small group stood next to the helicopter awaiting for the next set of orders and Dante spoke up. "Does anyone happen to know how to fly a helicopter?" he asked.
They all collectively shook their heads and a small smile crept onto the Commander's face. "Well that just leaves me then. First Sergeant, you'll ride shotgun, you'll have to be my right eye." he stated as if he had flown a thousand times before.
"Is that a good idea Commander?" Switch asked nervously.
Dante slowly turned his head toward the young Blue, his "stink eye" being more than appropriate for the situation. "Are you questioning my decision making skills, Corporal? It's not going to fly itself and we need to get to the base asap. I'd be happy to leave your ass on the ground if you're going to be a little bitch about it." he snapped.
"No, Sir..I'm good to go." Switch replied, knowing full well he was put in his place.
Astrum and Malachy gave Switch a look that told him he really needed to think before he spoke sometimes, which Switch knew was true but he still glared back at them defiantly. They couldn't blame him for not wanting to die in a fiery helicopter crash. He also didn't know that Dante was an experienced pilot.
"That's what I like to hear, now get your ass in there and shut your mouth." Dante ordered as he jumped into the driver's seat.
Kyra watched them all leave as the chaos continued to whirl around her but she wasn't paying it any mind until Dante was out of her sight. When she saw the group stop by the helicopter for a second and then Dante got into the driver's seat, her heart missed a beat.
"He wouldn't fucking dare..." she breathed. "Of course he would, the moron." she said sarcastically before she ran out into the field.
"DANTE! THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!" she raged as she approached the helicopter.
Dante's ears picked up on her cursing and yelling as she got closer and he quickly turned on the engines.
"YOU STUPID SON OF A-" she yelled but was drowned out by the engines.
Astrum leaned forward in his seat to look passed Dante as Kyra approached them just as Dante lifted off the grass.
"Commander? Perhaps she had something important to tell you?" Astrum questioned, leaning back into his seat to keep an eye open on their right side.
"Nah, she's just going to beat the living shit out of me later for doing this." Dante laughed. "Believe me, we all just dodged a bullet. You're all an accessory by the way, just warning you now." he stated, speaking over his shoulder to the others behind him.
"She sounds like quite the little spitfire." Astrum laughed.
"Oh she is and I love her to death for it. Even when I know I'm going to get my ass handed to me later." Dante chuckled. "But hey, that's my job, I'm her husband now. She's got to expect this shit." he added.
"I can relate. My wife is the very same." Astrum stated fondly.
"I must say you've got balls for Bonding with a human, considering all the political outrage towards them but I get it." Dante said, changing the mood. "She must mean a lot to you to make such a sacrifice." he added.
"She does. That woman has the spirit of a Burillian in her. Now that we are Bonded, she can even produce shockwaves." Astrum replied.
Dante gawked at him. "You're shitting me." he said in disbelief. "Now that I have to see." he laughed.
